I did an engagement shoot earlier this year with Aaron and Vilma but it got cut a little short. So we hooked up last week to canvas the city and take some photos. It was so fun! We cruised all over until the sun went down and than we had a nice pint of beer and burger to top off the wonderful evening.

Friendly Chaps Photo Club | Portland, Oregon

Last night was the big photography presentation for my students. For the past 8 weeks I have been teaching a photography class during an after school program for elementary students at Friendly House Community Center.

They learned everything about how a camera works. From aperture, shutter speed and film speed to lighting, depth of field, and composition, these chaps learned it all! We also learned about different types of cameras and lenses and studied photographers.

Each week we studied different types of photography ranging from portraits and landscapes to macro and abstracts. Most of the time was spent in the field, seizing moments and capturing images.

It was such an awesome experience for me to teach these kids and watch them creatively grow. I am super proud of them.

One of my students came up to me and told me that Sunday is his birthday and he says "you wanna know what I am gonna ask for?!" He doesn't even wait for my response cause he is so excited. "A camera!" He yells out.

Swing into Spring | Portland, Oregon

Friendly House Community Center lies in the heart of NW Portland and it's a place that welcomes everyone from the neighborhood and creates opportunities for people to get involved with their community. It truly is an incredible place.

It was a fun and energetic circus themed fundraiser that consisted of a silent and live auction where Shirley Gillham was the Auctioneer. All proceeds benefited Friendly House's programs serving children, homeless families, neighborhood residents and elders. They raised over 100,000 dollars and had donors making jaw dropping donations from 100 to 10,000 dollars!

They had a beautiful Jazz singer/bass player, Katie Davis, who had a tremendous voice. Her good friend, Griffin Gaffney, helped raise money to start a class at Friendly House that teaches elementary kids how to play the violin.

With Food In Bloom doing the catering, it made for a fun and tasty night!

Fundraising | Portland, OR

The next two months are filled with some exciting events. Two of them are fundraisers. Friendly House Community Center, where I teach a photography class to 4th and 5th graders is having a silent and live auction that brings in a lot of money for this non-profit organization.

The second is another live auction that raises money for Juvenile Diabetes. I am really happy to extend my services for such great causes.

I'll be posting photos after the events.


My photography class will also be presenting their final project at the end of the month. I'll post photos of the event. Should be really fun! The kids are super excited!

Chef Michael | Portland, OR

For many artists their outlets may include: painting, drawing, singing, photography, etc. For Michael, it's cooking. And with every meal he creates, it's as if he is writing poetry. Michael is a high school teacher and moonlights as a chef in his own beautiful remodeled kitchen that he customized himself.

I love to take photographs of artists at work. They are so focused and become one with their art. I have noticed this about myself too.

So when Michael and his fiance Brooke invited my wife and I over for dinner, I took the opportunity to photography him in his element. It was amazing and we had so much fun!

I have always put my heart and soul in my photography and not so much in advertising. I hope my work will just speak for itself. We live in a world were we can reach a lot of people fairly easily and inexpensively. Most of my work comes from word-of-mouth and being apart of the Wedding Photojournalist Association.
